Chiropractic Care

Your chiropractic experience will begin with obtaining a comprehensive health history, to identify not only your areas of complaint, but co-morbidities or lifestyle issues that may be contributing to your pain or impeding your ability to recover or  achieve your optimum health. This will be followed by a thorough clinical examination, with emphasis on the areas of your chief complaint, but will also look at other areas that may be contributing to your pain or overall general health, X-rays may or may not be taken.  The need for x-rays will be determined by your doctor based on the nature and severity of your complaint as well as on clinical findings. Once your doctor has synthesized all the information from your history, examination and x-rays (if taken),  a diagnosis will be determined and treatment plan recommended that is specific to your needs.  Your treatment will generally include chiropractic adjustments , but only if you are a good candidate.  Dr. Koshick and Dr. Neuber are proficient in a variety of chiropractic adjustment techniques, from traditional techniques of manual manipulation, to low force manual and drop techniques as well as low force instrument adjusting  using the Activator Method. Our doctors can move the same bone or joint using several different methods, allowing them to tailor a technique that most fits your comfort level.

Therapeutic Exercise Training

We believe early return to activity or keeping you in the game is often the most common goal our patients present to us. Rehabilitative exercises often play a role in return to sport, work or play. Therapeutic exercise can be defined as bodily movement prescribed to correct an impairment, improve musculoskeletal function, or maintain a state of well-being. It may vary from highly selected activities restricted to specific muscles or parts of the body, to general and vigorous activities that can return a convalescing patient to the peak of physical condition.  We have the training and expertise to construct an exercise program to meet your specific needs and goals when necessary. Therapeutic exercise seeks to accomplish the following goals:
Enable ambulation
Release contracted muscles, tendons, and fascia
Mobilize joints
Improve circulation
Improve respiratory capacity
Improve coordination
Reduce rigidity
Improve balance
Promote relaxation
Improve muscle strength and, if possible, achieve and maintain maximal voluntary contractile force (MVC)
Improve exercise performance and functional capacity (endurance)

Interferntial Current Therapy

Interferential Current Therapy (IFC) is a noninvasive electrical therapy indicated for the symptomatic relief from, and management of, chronic intractable pain and post-surgical and post-trauma acute pain. It provides a safe and effective alternative to pharmacological approaches to pain control. IFC has minimal side effects and is non-addictive. Interferential current therapy has been used extensively to help manage pain, edema, and inflammation due to soft tissue irritation from trauma or degenerative changes, with less dependence on narcotics. IFC can be used for pain associated with several conditions including: Back and neck pain (most common), Arthritis, Strains and sprains, Neuralgia, Degenerative joint disease, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), Shingles and Interstitial Cystitis.

Spinal traction is a form of decompression therapy that relieves pressure on the spine. It can be performed manually or mechanically.
Spinal traction is used to treat herniated discs, sciatica, degenerative disc disease, pinched nerves, and many other back conditions.Spinal traction stretches the spine to take pressure off compressed discs. This straightens the spine and improves the body's ability to heal itself.Patients with spinal conditions benefit from this therapy because the traction reverses the force of gravity, without the dangerous risks associated with inversion therapy. It is most commonly used to treat slipped discs, bone spurs, degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, facet disease, sciatica, foraminal stenosis, and pinched nerves.

Therapeutic Ultrasound

Ultrasound can produce many physiological effects. It has been shown to cause increases in tissue relaxation, local blood flow, and scar tissue breakdown. The effect of the increase in local blood flow can be used to help reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation, and, according to some studies, promote bone fracture healing. The intensity or power density of the ultrasound can be adjusted depending on the desired effect. A greater power density (measured in watt/cm2 is often used in cases where scar tissue breakdown is the goal.

DOT Physicals

Dr. Koshick is a Registered DOT examiner with the National Motor Carrier Safety Administration. New federal regulations require all commercial truck drivers to undergo examination by a physician who is certified by the NMCSA to perform DOT physicals.  If your current health care provider is not certified with the federal government, your CDL will be invalid or not accepted at renewal.  If your job requires a certified medical examination to maintain or obtain your Commercial Drivers License (CDL), this can be done quickly and conveniently.  This examination will require a physical examination, a urine sample and a finger stick.

Digital Radiography

At New Berlin Chiropractic & Therapy Center, we use only high quality digital imaging and have since 2009. Digital radiology may represent the greatest technological advancement in medical imaging over the last decade. The use of radiographic films in x ray imaging might become obsolete in a few years. An appropriate analogy that is easy to understand is the replacement of typical film cameras with digital cameras. Images can be immediately acquired, deleted, modified, and subsequently sent to a network of computers.

The benefits from digital radiology are enormous. It can make a radiological facility or department filmless and improve image quality greatly. The referring physician can view the requested image on a desktop or a personal computer and manipulate the technical factors of the image to better identify any questionable findings, resulting in better patient safety and outcomes.  The doctor is able to view the images in just a few minutes after the examination was performed. The images are no longer held in a single location; but can be seen simultaneously by physicians who anywhere on the planet with internet capability is a consult or second opinion is needed. In addition, the patient can have their x ray images put on a compact disk  for their own personal record or to take to another physician or hospital.

  • reduction of muscle tension and stiffness and relief of muscle spasms
  • greater flexibility and range of motion
  • increase of the ease and efficiency of movement
  • relief of stress and aide of relaxation
  • promotion of deeper and easier breathing
  • improvement of the circulation of blood and movement of lymph
  • relief of tension-related conditions, such as headaches and eyestrain
  • promotion of faster healing of soft tissue injuries, such as pulled muscles and sprained ligaments, and reduction in pain and swelling related to such injuries
  • reduction in the formation of excessive scar tissue following soft tissue injuries
  • enhancement in the health and nourishment of skin
  • improvement in posture through changing tension patterns that affect posture

Massage therapy also has a number of documented clinical benefits. For example, massage can speed recovery of neck and back pain and strain- sprain injuries, reduce anxiety, improve pulmonary function in young asthma patients, reduce psycho-emotional distress in persons suffering from chronic inflammatory bowel disease, increase weight and improve motor development in premature infants, and may enhance immune system functioning. Some medical conditions that massage therapy can help are: Allergies, anxiety and stress, arthritis, asthma and bronchitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and other repetitive motion injuries, chronic and temporary pain, circulatory problems, depression, digestive disorders, tension headache, insomnia, myofascial pain, sports injuries, and temporomandibular (TMJ) joint dysfunction.

Nutritional Counseling

Approximately 70 percent of all causes of death in the United States are related to lifestyle. This means food choices, exercise habits and tobacco exposure largely determine one’s health. Diet is a large piece of this puzzle. We know that healthy food choices can help lower an individual’s risk for many chronic diseases such as heart disease, certain types of cancer and stroke. Nutrition therapy has the potential to save money as an alternative to more expensive treatments. It may prevent the need for medication, surgery or even hospitalization. Nutrition therapy can have a significant impact on various disease conditions, such as cholesterol, diabetes and hypertension. When lifestyle or other circumstances do not allow you to get enough of the proper nutrients through diet alone, then nutritional supplementation may be of value to you.  At New Berlin Chiropractic & Therapy Center, we carry only the highest nutriceutical grade supplements.  Both Dr. Koshick and Dr. Neuber are certified in nutritional counseling and are happy to answer your questions or make recommendations if appropriate.
